The baseball offseason is here because the world series is over. For all teams this is a chance to review the previous season and make the team better. Every team except the Sox didn't win, therefore every team must try to get better in order to win.
The biggest new news is that Alex Rodriguez opted out of his contract with the Yankees. This means that he is now a free agent again and can sign with a new team. This is potentially good news for every team in the league, as he is the best player in the MLB.
But even though he is a free agent, he probably won't sign with the Yanks. They said that if he opts out of his contract (which he did), they would not negotiate a new contract with him. And because of that it looks like Rodriguez will end up with a new team for the 2008 season.

College Football
College football is currently in full swing. We are moving closer to BCS time, and the top teams are all aware that their current play is immensly important in what kind of postseason they will have. Only the top 10 teams have a shot at a BCS game, but others will get a chance to play in lesser bowl games.
The BCS can be flawed however, because it places all importance on the regular season to determine who gets a chance for the championship. Instead of a playoff system where many teams get a chance, only two get a chance for it in this system. It limits who can win.
The system could work better with something like what college basketball uses. A tournament allows many teams to get a chance to win a championship. A team shouldn't be penalized that heavily for maybe two losses in the beginning of the season.

NFL
This Sunday was another great NFL day. The overpowering New England Patriots won again in impressive fashion. The undefeated Indianapolis Colts also won quite convincingly.
These two teams have been easily beating inferior teams this whole year, and they are now the two undefeated teams left. The juicy part is they play each other this next Sunday, and it should be a battle for the ages. Whoever wins that game will have ultimate bragging rights and a claim as the best team in the league.
Also the winner will have a great chance to go undefeated for the season. Such a feat is usually thought to be nearly impossible, but with the way these two teams have been beating up other teams, it looks possible. If that happens it would be only the second time in history.

World Series
The Red Sox have won the MLB World Series. They swept the Colorado Rockies, four games to none. They looked like an overly dominant team and never gave the Rockies any hope.
This ending is what I predicted earlier on this blog, and it came true. The Red Sox pitching was too strong, and the bats were to powerful for the young Rockies pitchers. Although the Rockies were hot coming in, the 8 days off cooled their strong momentum.
This brings to question the long time off. It definitley seemed to hurt the Rocks, and something may have to be done to prevent this much time off for teams still playing. It may or may not have hurt the Rocks, but MLB can't afford to take that chance.

Syracuse Basketball
The college basketball season is fast approaching, and many fans accross the country are anxiously awaiting its arrival. The Syracuse Orange once again look like they have a good team, and will look to make the NCAA Tournament this year. They will have some trouble however, as even with a good team and record last year they were still left out.
Many experts have the Orange as the 5th best team in a very good Big East Conference which includes national powerhouses such as Louisville, Conneticut, and Villanova. Obviously they have their work cut out for them, but Coach Jim Boeheim is confident in his roster. The longtime basketball coach knows that to make the NCAA Tournament his team must at least stay as succesfull and probably improve.
The roster has some great players on it including a top 50 Wooden Award finalist in Eric Devendorf. Also two top new freshman in Johnny Flynn and Donte Green will compete for big time minutes. But with top shooter Andy Rautins out for the year with a knee injury the other players know they all must step up their games to bring glory back to the Carrier Dome.

NBA
The NBA season is fast approaching, and many fans are very excited about its arrival. New teams have new players, and teams that didn't do so well last year have another shot at a title. There is always hope for the new year.
Maybe the most improved team is the Boston Celtics, who got two superstars in Ray Allen and Kevin Garnett. Allen is probably the best shooter in the league and Garnett is one of the best rebounders and all around big men in the game. These two will pair with Paul Pierce, who was already on the team.
My favorite team, the Knicks, have added a star of their own in Zach Randolph, who will add scoring and rebounding from the forward position. He will pair with Eddy Curry to form a strong scoring punch of big men. While the talent looks promising, there is still some off the court concerns, like coach Isiah Thomas' current harrassment lawsuit. The team will try to work past those concerns this season with some of the most talent they have had in years.

NFL
The Indy Colts won last night to get to 6-0 on the season. This means they and the Patriots are the only undefeated teams left. Who is better?
There is no real way to tell who is better because they haven't played each other. There is only judging based on who they have played. And the Colts have played teams with winning records, and the Pats have played teams with losing records.
The Colts haven't been blowing people away like the Pats, but they have a great new D which looks better than the Pats, and Peyton Manning is still Peyton Manning. Also they are the champions from last year, and haven't lost in 11 games. The Pats are good but the Colts are better, at least right now.
